FHONK carbide insert knives are manufactured from high-grade cobalt-bonded tungsten carbide (WC-Co), combining exceptional hardness with outstanding transverse rupture strength.

Application Explanation

FHONK indexable carbide inserts — also known as reversible knives or replacement inserts for spiral and helical cutterheads — are widely compatible with surface planers, thickness planers, four-sided moulders, spindle moulders, copy shapers, edge banders, CNC machining centers, and spiral cutterheads. They machine an extensive range of materials: solid woods such as oak, walnut and mahogany; bamboo and branch wood; wood-based panels including MDF, particleboard, plywood and melamine-faced board; and composites such as acrylic, high-pressure laminate (HPL) and various plastics. From rough planing and finish planing to profile milling, high-speed cutting, edge banding and flush trimming, these inserts cover the full spectrum of process requirements in furniture manufacturing, flooring production, panel processing, wood chip production and architectural millwork.
Every insert is precision-ground to hold dimensional tolerances within ±0.01 mm, while mirror-polished cutting edges deliver outstanding sharpness and a smooth, clean surface finish on the workpiece. The four-edge indexable design allows a dulled edge to be quickly indexed to a fresh cutting edge, dramatically reducing tool changes and machine downtime.
